From Temple to Table

I first saw Roy Hange in the Christian Tradition class at EMS, in the fall of last year, my first semester of seminary. He came to speak about his experience in the Middle East and Muslim-Christian dialog. I was captivated and quickly signed up for this class, Faith-based Peacebuilding at the Summer Peacebuilding Institute, which is put on each year by EMU’s Center for Justice & Peacebuilding (where I’m also studying for a second degree).

He was with us today at The Table in his role as overseer for the Mennonite churches in the Harrisonburg district. He preached a stellar sermon on Mark 13:1-8 which explored the socio-political dimensions of the passage and made connections across the Gospel narrative to paint a strikingly vivid and nuanced picture of the text, while also offering hints at contemporary connections and meaning.
