Ryan and Brian take on the web!

This fall, fellow Table-dweller, Ryan Beuthin, and I took a class together at the CJP, called “Research as Art & Transformation,” which was taught by prof. Howard Zehr and CJP alum, Paulette Moore. The final projects that came out of this class took on a wide range of topics and issues. I thought, perhaps, Table folks might be interested in what they explore. Ours took the form of blogs, with video produced and published there. We also happened to use our own respective music in the video productions (note to self: write some music with Ryan while still here in H’burg). Here are the links and some description:

Ryan – Living Lawnless and Other Stories from Unsung America
Ryan’s project tackled sustainability issues by way of interviewing folks that are doing some pretty awesome work around the Harrisonburg community. At this point, there is one post on the blog, with all five YouTube videos (which make up the one entire video/movie). Ryan’s asked for feedback, and I’ve obliged him, so feel free to do the same! One of the folks Ryan interviews is Steve Gerber, who also attends the table, and does amazing urban gardening!

Ryan took a very Michael Moore-like approach to the video production; so it’s very much like a documentary. I’ve watched the first video four times already, it’s so cool! Great work, Ryan!

Brian – Restorative Theology – Smart people wrestling in church
My project deals with spiritual-vocational formation by interviewing four EMU faculty members about their journeys. The interview subjects represent three different academic departments, equal gender distribution, and varying degrees of age & tenure distribution. Three of the interview subjects are doing theological-spiritual work as faculty in either the seminary or the undergrad Bible & Religion dept. The fourth faculty member is the professor of peacebuilding at the CJP, Lisa Schirch. This is definitely a project that would mostly be interesting to EMU campus community-connected folks. What I’ve linked to here is a listing of all posts on my blog related to this project. They appear in reverse-chronological order (which is a blog standard).

Hope you find something to connect with in these projects!
